Children's Chorus awarded generous grant
A grant awarded to the Hocking County Children’s Chorus will help power a future musical production.
Therese Karnes, Executive Director of the HCCC said they were generously awarded a $3,000 grant from the non-profit organization called the South Central Power Company Foundation.
Karnes explained that the foundation is supported by customers who choose to round up their electric bill to the nearest dollar through ‘Operation Round Up’.
“We are thrilled to receive this generous grant from South Central”, said Karnes. “These grant monies will enable us to pay for the license and royalty fees, as well as secure the needed materials for our musical production of Annie Jr., slated for April 13 and 14, 2019 at the Logan High School Theatre.”
She explained that they have worked diligently to secure grants and awards to purchase their sound system, risers and dress uniforms.
“The cost of the musical production is a challenge each year,” she continued. “This award from South Central Power will make a tremendous difference for us. It is especially exciting to know these dollars are being brought into our county, to be used for our children.”
Karnes communicated that the HCCC, a United Way Agency, is a non-profit and aims to “provide the children of Hocking County a culturally diverse musical experience, and an opportunity to explore and develop their own talents in music, performance, and theater.”
The HCCC is open to all children of Hocking County in grades two through 12.
“This includes children in public schools, private schools, the Digital Academy, and those who are homeschooled. The chorus is open to children of all abilities,” she added. “There is a modest registration fee to join the choir, which includes all uniforms, music, t-shirts, costumes and supplies for the year. Arrangements are made to assist any who cannot afford the fee.”
Karnes expressed her thankfulness for the support given to the chorus. She was happy to share that the chorus is starting its new season with a record high of registrations with more than 70 children.
“We have a wonderful Board of Directors, lots of supportive community volunteers, and terrific families who help make all of this work,” Karnes concluded.
