HCCC RECEIVES CARES ACT GRANT MONIES FROM OAC

The Hocking County Children’s Chorus was selected to receive one of the 296 CARES Act relief grants from the Ohio Arts Council. The funds were made available through Governor Mike DeWine and state legislative leaders, in an effort to support the arts in our communities during this challenging time of the Covid 19.

“We are so fortunate to receive these emergency funds, and deeply appreciate the OAC and Governor DeWine for this assistance,” said Therese Karnes, Executive Director of the HCCC.

“Typically, we rely on our annual registrations and musical theater ticket sales to cover our operating expenses. However, this year our numbers are down almost 50% because of the pandemic. We are unable to hold concerts or participate in parades and local festivals, but our day-to-day costs remain the same – we continue to pay our monthly bills of rent, gas, electric, etc. And like the school systems and local businesses, we have incurred considerable extra expenses as well – purchasing hand sanitizer, disposable masks, and no-touch forehead thermometers, and other cleaning supplies. These grant monies are a most welcome gift!”

The Ohio Arts Council is a state agency that funds and supports quality arts experiences to strengthen Ohio communities culturally, educationally, and economically. The Hocking County Children’s Chorus is a non-profit organization, whose mission is to provide the children of Hocking County a culturally diverse musical experience, and an opportunity to explore and develop their own talents in music, performance, and theater. The HCCC has been entertaining Hocking County for over 40 years.
