HCCC annual Christmas Concert slated for this Sunday
December is a busy month for everyone, including the members of the Hocking County Children’s Chorus as they prepare for their annual Christmas Concert that will be held Dec. 10 at 3 p.m. at the Church of the Nazarene.
“Historically, our Christmas concert was held at St. John Catholic Church. Because we are a county choir, the suggestion was made to visit various churches around the community,” HCCC Director Therese Karnes explained.
“Pastor Tom Gates and Pastor Jeff Gray of the Church of the Nazarene have been incredibly gracious to invite us into their beautiful church.”
While the venue has changed, the concert itself has not. Audience members may look forward to a variety of Christmas music from traditional carols to new holiday tunes, as well as some original melodies from local artists. The children will also perform their signature song, “We Are the World.”
In addition to the vocal talents of the 69 members, both in a large choir and a number of solos, the children will also play a few handchime pieces. Paula Hammon will accompany the chorus on piano, and Stephen Karnes will play acoustic guitar.
HCCC will perform a total of seven times throughout December, including the Hocking Valley Community Hospital Holiday Affair, a performance at the Scenic Hills Senior Center, and several caroling events around town.
After the New Year, HCCC will participate in the Logan Frozen Festival and conclude the year with the production of “The Sound of Music” in May.
HCCC is a United Way Agency that is open to all children of Hocking County in grades two through seventh. These children may attend public school, private school, or be home-schooled; the choir is open to children of all abilities.
“I hope the audience will enjoy a delightful break from the hectic season, to sit back and absorb the joy and enthusiasm of these young children,” remarked Karnes. “Their affection and excitement is contagious — I leave every rehearsal with a big smile and warm heart.”
The concert is free to the public.
