Hocking County Children's Chorus - Community based, non-profit organization

HCCC presents 'Annie Jr.' today and Sunday

During these chilly, often dreary days, everyone is looking for the “sun to come out tomorrow.”

Tomorrow is here. The Hocking County Children’s Chorus will be singing that familiar tune, along with other favorites like “Hard-Knock Life”, “Little Girls, and “NYC” during their production of “Annie Jr.” today (7 p.m.) and Sunday (3 p.m.) at the Logan High School Theatre.

Based on the popular comic strip and adapted from the Tony Award-winning Best Musical, with music by Charles Strouse, book by Thomas Meehan and lyrics by Tom Briggs, Annie Jr. features everyone’s favorite little redhead in her very first adventure.

With equal measures of pluck and positivity, little orphan Annie (played by Madi McGhee) charms everyone’s hearts in Depression-era New York City.

Raised at an orphanage run by the cruel Miss Hannigan (portrayed by Peyton Wallace), Annie is determined to find the parents who abandoned her years ago. She runs away from the orphanage, befriends a dog she names Sandy (Morgan Bennett), and is caught and returned to the orphanage only to leave again with Grace Farrell (Angiolina Gabriel), the lovely secretary to Oliver Warbucks (Gabe Stephens), to spend Christmas with the billionaire.

When Oliver Warbucks falls for the lovable Annie, the evil Miss Hannigan, her ruthless brother Rooster (Will Venrick) and his flashy girlfriend Lily (Isabelle Stowe) see an opportunity to take advantage of them, and end up on “Easy Street.”

All the characters, from the darling orphans to an appearance from President Roosevelt (Simon Martin) are brought to life in this familiar classic. “This timeless tale will appeal to the whole family,” said Therese Karnes, HCCC Director. “The children have been working hard and singing their hearts out since January. It is a treat to see these young folks play Depression-era orphans and mean-spirited villains. I think the audience won’t be disappointed.”

Tickets may be purchased at the door.
