Logan In Bloom annual auction salted

The members of the Logan In Bloom committee and a host of volunteers were busy earlier this week adding a burst of color to Downtown Logan by planting hundreds of annual flowers in the large clay planters along Main Street, as well as adding annuals to areas of the sidewalk that were removed to make way for newly planted trees, shrubs and perennials.

In order to raise funds for the Logan In Bloom organization that is responsible for helping to beautify Downtown Logan throughout the year, the 12th annual Logan In Bloom auction will be hosted at the gazebo in Worthington Park at 11 a.m. Saturday.

The Hocking County Children’s Chorus under the direction of Therese Karnes, will open the event with a performance by the chorus members, with the auction to follow.

Rick Webb, president of the Logan In Bloom organization, noted that beautiful flags bearing floral designs painted by Logan High School art students will be displayed at the auction and may be sponsored by local businesses and residents for a $50 fee.

According to Bobbi Bishop, treasurer for the Logan In Bloom organization, many unique items will be featured in the auction. “We have two items that were donated by the late George Crow, including a handcrafted blue bird and a large clay fish that would add a whimsical touch to any garden. Megan Anzalone designed and created the lovely blue bird and I created the fish sculpture. We also had two clay planters donated and several gift baskets that are filled with gardening tools and accessories will be up for bid as well.

“In addition, Audrey Martin, donated a planter made from clay that is embellished with glass, as well as an old watering can that she painted pink to coincide with our ‘In the Pink’ theme that we adopted for our color scheme this year. We also have an Ohio State University water bottle, as well as an antler designed wine cork holder and bottle stopper,” Bishop explained.

Bishop noted that Webb is providing many flats of flowers that will be up for grabs, and Nick Kozma donated four, seven pound bags of Chickity Doo, Doo, an organic form of fertilizer that will also be on the auction block and will be sold to the highest bidders.

Webb welcomes the public to attend the event.

“We have a wide variety of items that will be included in the auction, as well as an assortment of Bowers and garden accessories. We would like to thank all of the volunteers who assisted with the planting project on Monday. We look forward to the performance by the Children’s Chorus on Saturday, as well as meeting and greeting our generous donors and supporters our annual fundraising event,” he concluded.
