Santa's Musical Christmas

As we celebrate Thanksgiving Day and the holiday weekend, we are reminded that the holiday season is now fully upon us!

As we move into the Christmas season, one of the staples of the Logan holiday season is fast approaching — the annual Christmas Parade, which is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 1. The parade has long been presented and organized by the Hocking Hills Chamber of Commerce and continues to be one of the largest events of the year for Logan residents. The theme for this year’s parade is Santa’s Musical Christmas.

The committee is hoping that participants and entries in the parade will feature all things musical to bring a smile to each face and tap to each toe. In keeping with the musical theme, the 2018 Parade Grand Marshall will be the Hocking County Children’s Chorus.

Under the direction of Therese Karnes, the Children’s Chorus has grown to include 75 children from 65 families. This program is a true gem for Hocking County and a unique opportunity for our children to grow and develop an appreciation for the art of music.

“The Christmas Parade is my favorite event that we do each year. It has such a community feel to it and a sense of community pride. Many or our events are geared just towards business and that focus in our mission, but this event is just about bringing everyone together and celebrating this beautiful time of year,” Andy Good, Executive Director of the Hocking Hills Chamber of Commerce, stated.

Each year the Christmas Parade includes approximately 100 entries that feature everything from firetrucks and police cars, to horses and snowplow trucks.

The parade will begin at 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 1 at the Hocking County Fairgrounds. The parade route will remain the same as in year’s past, with a trip up Main Street, onto Hunter, and end at the Hocking Mall on Chieftain Drive.

The fairground gates will be open for lineup at 9 a.m. The judging of the parade entries will begin at 1 p.m. Any entry hoping to receive an award for their entry category will need to be in the lineup by 1 p.m. in order to be considered.

The Hocking County 4-H groups will have hot chocolate and refreshments available for sale at the fairgrounds and also at Worthington Park in Downtown Logan. Worthington Park will also be the site for the live announcing and presentation of awards during the parade.

In the case of inclement weather, the rain date will be Sunday, Dec. 2.

Hocking Hills Chamber of Commerce would like to thank all those who work so hard and volunteer to make this a great event for our community. The parade lineup and coordination at the fairgrounds is done by the Hocking County Radio Club, and they are an invaluable asset and partner for this event.

For all of our sponsors and volunteers, we thank you for your support of the Chamber, but more importantly, for the community.
