HCCC presents 'The Sound of Music'

Perhaps you have been on Main Street lately and heard strains of “Climb Every Mountain” or “My Favorite Things” coming from above Saving Hardware. It wasn’t your imagination — the choristers of the Hocking County Children’s Chorus have been hard at work in their music room, practicing for their upcoming production, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s — “The Sound of Music”.

One of America’s most endearing musicals, the story is based on the real life story of the von Trapp family singers, one of the world’s best-known concert groups in the era immediately preceding World War II. 

There are 60 children in the production, which makes for quite a challenge when it comes to costumes. The costume director, Kathy Frasure (a retired Logan High School home economics teacher) began working on the 20 nun costumes in January.

“I am always amazed at how Kathy finds just the right material for the von Trapp children’s curtain clothes or the boys’ lederhosen and the girls’ dirndl dresses.  She puts many, many hours into our costumes,” said Therese Karnes, Director of HCCC. “The parents and community members have once again been quite generous with their time and talents to help us put on an amazing show.”

The show will be presented Saturday, May 19 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, May 20 at 3 p.m. at the Logan High School Theatre. Tickets for the show can be purchased in advance at Hawk’s Nest, Logan Insurance, and Rent-2-Own Center, or at the door.
